easyJet raises profit guidance after strong year

easyJet forecast a pre-tax profit for the 12 months to September 30 of £470m-480m compared with previous guidance of £450m-480m.

easyJet also released figures which showed a 4.8pc increase in the number of passengers in September from the same month a year earlier. That followed a a near-4pc increase in the number of passengers in August, putting paid to fears of a slow summer in the European air travel market.

In addition, to the uptick in the number of total passengers, its planes flew at fuller capacity. Load factor – a metric used in the airline industry to measure passengers as a proportion of available seats – rose to 89.7pc last month, from 88.5pc in the same month a year ago.

Shares in the Luton-based airline fell 0.38pc to £13.09.
