Sir Mervyn to return to school in New York

The former Bank of England governor has taken up a temporary post at the New York University Stern School of Business, where he will work alongside three Nobel laureates — Robert Engle, A. Michael Spence and Thomas Sargent — and Nouriel Roubini, known as the “Dr Doom” of the economics world.

He will spend the September-to-December term sharing his knowledge of central banking, regulation and the financial crisis.

The news came as the Cambridge and Harvard-educated economist was introduced into the House of Lords as a non-party political peer. He takes the title Baron King of Lothbury, in reference to the name of one of the streets flanking Britain’s central bank.

Sir Mervyn stepped down as Bank governor at the end of June after 10 years at the helm of the central bank. He was replaced by Mark Carney, the former governor of the Bank of Canada.
